Elie Wiesels novel, Night, and William Goldings novel, Lord of the Flies show how quickly humans can descend into chaos and savagery. Although monsters are despised and feared, they reflect society's taboos in a way for entertainment. At the beginning of the novel, Elie describes his community, the Jewish community of Sighet, as a very caring and unified society. . In Elie Wiesels autobiography Night, Wiesel explains the dehumanization of Eliezer, his family, and his fellow Jews throughout World War. The dehumanizing of the Jews was again displayed later on when Eliezer becomes a member of Block. "Yes, we even doubted that he Hitler wanted to exterminate us" (6). "My father ran to the left and right, exhausted, comforting friends, running to the Jewish council to see if the edict had not been revoked in the meantime" (13). It also shows the savage like behavior the Jews have adopted within the concentration camp. Wiesels autobiography Night clearly displays the dehumanization of Eliezer, his family, and his fellow Jews. However, just as their physical and mental states deteriorate, so will this unified feeling of friendship and love. Used to keep the jews in line in the concentration camps while they were in a animal like state where its every man for erefore this proves that dehumanization is a process that was used by the SS to keep the Jews in check.
