Probably the most prominent symbol in the book is kites. As the novel continues, after the kite tournament, the kite becomes a symbol of betrayal. Later he comes to think of the kite as a symbol of his betrayal to Hassan. Hassan may cooperate with the lifting and diving, but Amir is the one who wins. In Khaled Hosseinis novel, The Kite Runner, it is often thought that symbols and metaphors are used as visual representations to reinforce and put emphasis on important stages in the novel. This shows that the bear did not just symbolize the power and success of Baba but the struggles he had to face. Baba had to struggle with losing his wife, raising a son on his own and leaving his home country, but he still manage remained strong.
